West Village River View Apartment
Like so many New York City dwellings, this Lower Manhattan apartment has lived through various incarnations. It shares a building, originally a storage warehouse, that was later converted to loft apartments. NMA’s design constitutes its current stage evolution, as a quietly sophisticated two-bedroom dwelling that offers privacy, convenience, and comfort while retaining a loftlike sense of openness and historical context.
Exposed timber structural columns and beams express the building’s utilitarian origins while also framing and highlighting furniture and artwork chosen and sourced by NMA. An efficient L-shaped kitchen occupies one corner of the apartment’s main living space, which is anchored also by the contrasting minimalist forms of a dark, bluestone-faced fireplace and a custom whitewashed oak entertainment center. The bedrooms and baths pursue a similar theme—of smaller boxes floating within a larger box—while also conveying a sense of enclosure appropriate to their functions.
