Upstate New York House
For this residential project, our Client charged NMA to redesign the furniture, fabrics, lighting and finishes throughout their house. This Client hails from Trinidad and Tobago known for its carnival celebration, beautiful scenic spaces, and lush colorful flowers and plants. This prompted us to use finishes and fabrics that embraced the rich culture of this Caribbean oasis.
This Client, also an electrician, wanted his house to have high tech lighting. This desire allowed NMA to use our extensive knowledge in architectural and decorative lighting to create well lit spaces with art-like fixtures.
NMA strove to create a dramatic entry that at the same time felt inviting. The grey ceiling with uplighting juxtaposed with the white walls brings the entrants’ eyes directly to the grand chandelier at the top of the stairs. In the main living area, we installed oversized textural lights which center you in that room and give you a sense of scale. The color palette used in the communal spaces, kitchen, dining, and family rooms was bright red and orange reflecting again, the colors seen in the Caribbean.
Since the Clients spend a lot of time together and with their extended family, in the family room, we created spaces to play games, eat, watch tv and spend quality time. Bold color selections were made for the furniture, light fixtures and the pool table in this room which contributes to the festive environment.
In the overall project NMA created bright colorful spaces that were appropriately lit and functioned well for the entire family.
