St. Dominic Hospital Medical Spa
NMA provided comprehensive interior architecture and interior design services for St. Dominic Hospital’s Sanctuary Body Spa, in Jackson, Mississippi, a project that seamlessly integrates state-of-the-art medical and technical capabilities with the refined atmosphere of a high-end health and beauty spa.
Clients enter via a reception area lined with custom teak millwork topped with orange acrylic counters. A teak plank floor and a teak ceiling with custom acrylic lighting fixtures extend through a folding smart electric glass wall to the Green Room, a gathering space with a central fountain and windows overlooking an adjacent green roof. Spa facilities include changing rooms with custom wood lockers; salon stations for hair washing and styling, manicure and pedicure; an infrared sauna and porcelain-lined steam room; and an array of treatment rooms, including a wet room for hydrotherapy and Vichy treatments. Integrated seamlessly with these functions are the more private spaces of patient rooms, doctors’ offices, medical storage areas, and a medical lab.
The design theme was inspired by Mississippi’s lush greenery, orange coreopsis wildflowers, and meandering Pearl River. A collection of fine art nature photography by local artists, curated by NMA principal architect Nicole Migeon, hangs throughout the spa. The green roof heightens the effect of being close to nature even when indoors, while also reducing energy use and carbon emissions.
