Oon Arvelo Salon
NMA designed this high-end Midtown hair salon for two noted stylists, color director Peter Oon and hair designer Elvin Arvelo, channeling the style and energy of their practice into a sleek and sumptuous environment. Drawing on principal architect Nicole Migeon’s 20 years of experience in spa and salon design, the project provides a relaxed, luxurious patron experience while discreetly accommodating the many practical and technical requirements of a full-service salon.
Encompassing 2,000 square feet in a classic 1930 former bank building, the design weaves areas for reception, hair washing, styling, and manicure and pedicure—along with offices, a coffee bar, and a private spa room—into an elegantly unified sensory environment. NMA’s work incorporated vintage features original to the building; an elaborate lighting design, including the color temperature-correct lighting for hair coloring; a salon-centric material and fixture selection; and an extensive array of purpose-specific custom millwork.
Tested over several years of successful practice, Oon Arvelo Salon showcases not only NMA’s warm minimalist design philosophy but also our firm’s ability to combine aesthetics with function in highly specialized commercial projects.
