Nuvea Medical Spa

NMA designed this quietly elegant modern building as a prototype for a cosmetic surgery practice that incorporates the ambience and amenities of a luxury spa. Located in a wildflower meadow that slopes to the shore of a lake, the building is clad in concrete embossed with a leaf-like pattern and opens toward the lake via walls of floor-to-ceiling glass shaded by a wood brise soleil. A floating stair, in wood, wraps one corner, rising to a rooftop deck. The L-shaped plan devotes one wing to medical patients and one to spa clients, with a shared entrance and lobby at the hinge point. A natural stream flows through the floor of the lobby before emptying into the lake, creating a strong connection to the site and deeply tranquil indoor experience.
