Kovanda Medical Spa and Surgical Center

NMA is noted for designing uncommonly beautiful medical environments that also feel relaxing, reassuring and safe. Exemplary of that specialized expertise is this luxury medical spa and cosmetic surgery practice in Edina, Minnesota. Our client, a Francophile and aficionado of classical interior furnishings, collaborated closely with NMA to create a state-of-the art medical facility that combines NMA’s signature warm modernism with the ambience of a nineteenth-century Parisian salon.

The public’s point of entry is a circular waiting room with custom-designed herringbone walnut flooring, a custom walnut reception desk, and intricate neoclassical molding. The room centers on a distinctive island banquette, with a delicate chandelier and ceiling medallion above, and a Carrara marble fireplace. A second, more private waiting area, also circular in plan, is similarly appointed, with custom banquette seating and designer lighting fixtures and accessories. Consultation, spa treatment, operating, and recovery rooms are more austerely appointed, but decidedly non-institutional in their architecture, finishes, and furnishings. Diffuse lighting and subtle colors throughout lend a calming, almost ethereal effect.
