Butterfly Studio
NMA’s principal, Nicole Migeon, helped define the image of this high-end Flatiron District hair salon with an earlier interior renovation, designed when she was with the architecture firm RDHA. To accommodate a burgeoning clientele, the owners later commissioned NMA to design a second project, which expands the salon’s capacity while reinforcing its distinctive brand identity and enhancing its patrons’ experience.
New and renovated spaces include a welcome area with a custom reception desk, executed in wenge millwork with stainless steel accents, and two dramatic cylindrical changing room elements painted in Butterfly Studio’s signature orange. NMA’s design deploys variations on the same palette of forms, materials, and colors to an adjacent waiting area and a relaxation space whose walnut floor is inset with a linear koi pond. The result is a tranquil, harmonious, and aesthetically elevated retreat that feels miles away from the bustling city outside.
