6200 Riverdale
NMA’s renovation of this Bronx, New York, co-op apartment building lobby employs an artful selection of lighting, flooring, and wall treatments—along with some modest architectural interventions—to dramatically upgrade its tenants’ experience of their shared entrance.
Retaining the original glass air-lock entry and marble floor, our design eliminates a wall and doorway to the ground-floor residents’ hallway, opening the space to natural light from the lobby. Wallpaper and flooring selections combine commercial durability with colors and textures suitable for a high-end residential setting. The woven hallway flooring, by the Swedish company Bolon, is sustainably manufactured from recycled material. A coordinated suite of pendant and sconce lighting fixtures add visual interest, while a custom millwork element isolates the mailroom and its inevitable clutter, preserving the lobby’s composed and home-like atmosphere.
