Nuvea Medical Spa Approaches Construction

Carrollton, GA – September 5th, 2008 – Nicole Migeon Architect’s (NMA) latest spa design was commissioned by a board-certified plastic surgeon adding state-of-the-art Medical Spa services to his practice.

The challenge was to create a calm, soothing area and isolate it from its urban surroundings.  To accomplish this, the design team created a building shaped like an upper-case “L,” which encloses and suggests a frame for a spacious landscape. The exterior of the “L” is composed of heavy, opaque, custom vine-patterned concrete, while the interior is built with wide, open spaces and large sheets of glass. The effect is a unified area enclosing a soothing spa that feels remote from the rest of the world.

The facility includes eight multi-purpose exam and treatment rooms, changing rooms, a retail and reception area, and an office wing. To construct this space, NMA used custom-faded glass, which allows for clear sight at the top but becomes gradually more opaque as the eye moves downward. The floor of the reception area is textured Inca-Gray basalt, extending from the teak flooring in the hallways.  Pleasing patterns of translucent green and white tile compose the walls of the washrooms and treatment rooms.

To emphasize the spa’s connection with its outside areas, a water element runs through an open area inside the spa and continues outside, ending in a lake. The spa’s windowed façade and its wooden deck look out over the gently sloping lawn.  Beyond the lake is a small grove of pine trees. Footpaths meander through the area, providing an ideal environment for calm reflection.  Along the top of the building is a clearstory screen made of wooden slats. At night, a line of LED lights glows along the upper windows, supporting a seemingly floating roof.

Nuvea Medical Spa will integrate the building and its environment, creating a soothing indoor and outdoor space distinct from its surroundings.
